Floria is my latest design as a Ruby Star Maker. I created it for the Reverie fabric collection by Melody Miller for Ruby Star Society, and I used curved template pieces to create the blocks.
I wanted an interesting design that would showcase the color and scale of the prints.
Being a Ruby Star Maker is such an inspiration! I try to create a new quilt design (or two!) with each new fabric collection that arrives from Ruby Star Society. It's a great exercise in creativity and design.
This was my first design for Melody Miller's Curio Collection: Trinkets Quilt.
Curiosity is my second creation inspired by the Ruby Star Society Curio collection.
My inspiration for this design is the poolside mural in the Avalon Hotel in Beverly Hills, which used to be the iconic Beverly Carlton Hotel, home to Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball, and Desi Arnaz to name a few. Depending on the fabric I chose, this quilt takes on mid mod, graphic, or geometric vibes.
My husband is a huge Formula 1 fan. I created this quilt, using the team colors of his favorite team, McLaren, so he could watch the races in snuggly comfort on the sofa. I created the design using traditional quilt blocks and units like flying geese, bear claw, half square triangles, and pinwheels, but in a modern, asymmetric layout.
This quilt block design just sort of popped into my head, and setting it on point creates a lovely geometric effect.
We live in the woods, and throughout the year, many different kinds of mushrooms pop up around our home. My husband and I have an ongoing contest: who can snap a picture of the most interesting mushroom. This quilt is an homage to that game.
