Trinkets Quilt

Featuring Ruby Star Society's Curio Fabric Collection

One of my favorite things about making quilts is finding the inspiration for each one. Quilty inspiration can come from anywhere: a place I've been that has special meaning, a person I love, a piece of modern art.

The inspiration for this quilt came from the fabric itself: the Curio collection by Melody Miller for Ruby Star Society, which I received as part of the Ruby Star Makers team.

I mean, just look at these beautiful prints and colors!

I named the first quilt I designed Trinkets. I wanted to play off the fabric collection name, and what else do you find in a curio cabinet other than trinkets! I also wanted to use a traditional block in a new way to create a surprising secondary design in the fabric. I chose a block that is created with HSTs (half square triangles):

And here's the result:

For the quilting, I used a gold thread (the color is called Sand from Glide Thread) to bring out the metallics in some of the prints. I went with the Thread Garden pantograph from the Longarm League, which creates great texture and plays off the whimsy of the fabric collection:

In the next post, I'll introduce you Curiosity!
